Located in Tenerife, in an area of unspoiled countryside just below the small
mountain village of Tigaiga 200m above sea level, is La Finca El Quinto.
This 15-acre organic fruit and arable farm sits within a beautiful, peaceful
valley, surrounded by some of the most stunning mountain ridges on the island
and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean . It is about 2km from the small town of Los
Realejos and 6km west of Puerto de la Cruz.
The welcoming and friendly husband-and-wife team have their own organic produce
for sale and there are twelve homes available for rent. The cottages were created
by the owners applying local construction techniques and using traditional,
reclaimed windows, doors and antique terracotta tiles. A ge-old materials
and contemporary skills have been combined to create inspirational, rustic,
country-style interiors, all luxuriously appointed with modern amenities.
The estate is an excellent location for seminars and large family get-togethers
for which special outside facilities including sun terraces and a communal
swimming pool have been created. Car hire can be included as part of an all-inclusive
package, as can half- or full- board catering for parties of 15 people and over.
Finca El Quinto was set up in 1987 by Helmut and Roswitha Köllmann who
moved to Tenerife to become self-sufficient and enjoy an organic lifestyle
with their five children.
Over a period of five years, the couple successfully created a rural idyll
and the cottages they constructed have since attracted families, couples,
teaching groups and executives looking for alternative holidays away from
the tourist establishment and gift malls.
Growing around the cottages and flats, there are fruit trees such as mango,
papaya, avocado and banana and wonderful fresh herbs for the kitchen.
Each holiday home has been built in traditional Canary style using the
appropriate joinery and original features for the windows and for the
roofs antique tiling.
The holiday homes are connected with each other by small paths and steps
that lead through the farm. Each home has a beautiful view across the
Atlantic and the adjacent Barranco (the Realejos Bajo gorge).
